Lucille Margaret (Nance) Ward, a resident of Burlington, Ohio, died on June 9, 2004, at age 89 in South Point, Ohio. A native of Lawrence County, Ohio, Lu lived in Chicago, Illinois during World War II while her husband, William "Bill" Loren Ward was overseas in the military. After the war, she and Bill returned to the Ohio Valley, settling near her family in Huntington. Through 1960, Lu worked at Bailey's Cafeteria then Blake's Grocery Store in Guyandotte, which was owned by her sister and brother-in-law, Dolous Morris and Maxine "Kay" (Nance) Blake. In 1969, Lu and her husband, William Loren Ward, moved to Burlington, where they continued an antique business they began in Guyandotte in the early 1960s.

A graduate of Rome High School, Lu was born April 13, 1915 on Federal Creek in Lawrence County. She was the daughter of James Allen and Ada Susan (Adkins) Nance, both life long residents of Lawrence County. Her paternal grandparents were Solomon and Susan Matilda (Burcham) Nance; her maternal grandparents were Rev. William Henry Harrison Adkins and his second wife, Dolly A. Massie.

Although Lu's grandfather, Rev. Wm. Henry Harrison Adkins, was a well known Baptist minister in Lawrence County from 1870 to his death in 1912, Lu's parents joined the Church of Christ when she was a child. She remained a devout member all her life.

Lu was preceded in death by her husband;
daughter, Mildred Joan Ward, who died in 1933;
her sisters Jennie Olive Nance, Nellie (Nance) Brooks, Mary Francis (Nance) Ward/Kurth; Irene "Jo" Russell/Clay;
her brothers Walter Nance and Clarence "Cap" Nance.

She is survived by her youngest sister, Maxine L. "Kay" (Nance) Blake, who operated Kay's Antiques next to Lu and Bill's shop in Burlington in the 1970s and 1980s;
numerous nieces and nephews in the Ohio Valley.

Graveside service was at Greenbottom Memorial Park, Lesage, WV.
