Kitty Sue Brister was born September, 2, 1948, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to John B. and Jewel B. Caldwell. She went to be with the Lord September 18, 2011. Visitation will be 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Chapel of Hope with the family present 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Christian Center. Graveside will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

Kitty was a lifelong resident of Hobbs. She graduated from Hobbs High School in 1966. She received her associate degree from New Mexico Junior College. Kitty worked as a lab tech at Lea Regional Hospital, at Johnnie's Floral and Gifts, and as a secretary, substitute teacher, librarian and special education teacher for the Hobbs Public Schools. She married Loyd Brister on January 15, 1977. Kitty lived life with a passion. She loved to bowl. She could often be found in a cheering section for her sons' baseball team or the Atlanta Braves. Kitty loved to play the piano and sing. Her love for God was instilled in her early years as she and her family attended First Baptist Church. She was a member at Immanuel Baptist Church until 2008. Kitty was a member of the New Mexico Junior College Chorale and sang at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 1998. She was most remembered for her love of family. Kitty was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by husband Loyd Brister of Hobbs, New Mexico; sons, James, and wife Erin, of Kerbyville, Texas, Robert, and wife Brandi, of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Russell "Cooter", and wife Ana, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 8 grandkids; brothers, Don Caldwell, and wife Jan, of Brownwood, Texas, and Ron Caldwell, and wife Lois, of Watauga, Texas; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John B. Caldwell and Jewel B. Buchanan Caldwell.
