Funeral services for Jewell Caldwell of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Jack Lott and Star Hospice Chaplain Devin Birdsong will officiate. Burial will take place after servic­es at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Jewell was born July 21, 1913, in Pontotoc, Miss. She died Aug. 9, 2007, at her home in Hobbs. She married John B. Caldwell on Nov. 30, 1941, in Pontotoc.

Jewell was a nurse in her younger years. She practiced nursing in Pontotoc and in Hobbs during World War II. After her husband, John, returned from the Air Force, they bought their service sta­tion on Marland and contin­ued there until 1969. They owned and operated numerous rental properties. Jewell was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and was active in WMD. She also was a member of Hobbs Senior Citizens.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Don Caldwell and wife Jan of Brownwood, Texas, and Ron Caldwell and wife Lois of Watauga, Texas; a daughter, Kitty Brister and husband Loyd of Hobbs; a sister, Mary Etta Sanders of Mobile, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, Robert S. Brister of Hobbs, Russell L. Brister of Tulsa, Okla., Tanya D. Thomlinson of Hobbs, Jeff N. Tucker of Corinth, Texas, D. Scott Caldwell of Amarillo, James Tippett of Eunice, Rhonda Belinevich of Spring, Texas, Lisa Lee and Lori Reaves of Azul, Texas, and Jimmy Dalton of RoarlOke, Texas; 19 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Jean Bock of Hobbs.

Jewell was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Caldwell; her parents, Henry A. and Kitty S. Buchanan; and a brother, Robert H. Buchanan.
