Julie's French great-granfather, Louis Villers helped found Detroit. Her father served as Mayor. Her first husband, James McMillan was a Yale graduate and a son of Michigan's Senator. James developed Tuberculois while serving in the Spanish-American War. The McMillans moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1901. James died in 1902 and in 1906 Julie married Spencer Penrose. Spencer built the Broadmoor Hotel in 1918 and died December 7, 1939.
