Florence J. Janke, age 101, of Saint Paul, Minnesota, passed away on October 15, 2010, at Highland Chateau Health Care Center, in Saint Paul.

Florence was born, on March 21, 1909, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Clifton and Maude (Carver) Smith. She and William J. Janke were united in marriage, in Ironwood, Michigan, in 1934. She was a homemaker and, for many years, a registered nurse.

Survivors include: her daughters: Faith (Peter) Gavin, of Minneapolis; and Donna (William) Salzwedel, of Madison, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Florence is also survived by: one sister, Leola Davis, of Hayward, Wisconsin; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Janke, of Saint Paul; many nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by: her husband, William, in 1964; two sons: Roger and Keith; one daughter, Leola Nelson; and her parents, Clifton and Maude Smith.

A gathering, for the family and friends of Florence, will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Mountain Funeral Home in Ashland, Wisconsin.

Interment and a graveside committal service, officiated by Patricia Luostari, will take place at the Mount Hope Cemetery, in Ashland, immediately following the gathering at the Funeral Home. Casket bearers will include: Richard Janke, Robert Janke, Rodney Janke, Russell Janke, David Nelson, and Demetri Kahriman.

Memorials are preferred, in lieu of flowers, to the Paralyzed Veterans of America or the United Methodist Church in Ashland.
