Mrs. McNeil, 82 of Decatur, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Wayne County General Hospital in Waynesboro.
She was a Newton County native, and lived here all of her life. She was married to Leon McNeil for 38 years, and raised three children in the Pleasant Ridge community. She was retired from the Decatur Shirt Factory after 31 years, and Peavy Electronics for 7 years. She was a lifelong faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. She had a deep love for her church and was dedicated to attending every function. Her favorite past times were sewing, spending time with her family, going to Sacred Harp Singings, and traveling with her family and church friends.
Survivors include her children: Sidney (Doreen) McNeil of Sharon; Peggy (Phillip) Gandy of Waynesboro; Mike (Sharon) McNeil of Decatur; grandchildren: Michelle (Bryan) Withers; Sidney (Andrea) McNeil, Jr.; Charlotte (Robin) Hamm; Kim (Todd) Stokley; Gwen (Charles) King; Josh Gandy; Rindy (Pete) Pierman; Daniel (Stacey) McNeil; Cheryl (Chris) McElhenney and Brad Taylor; 20 great-grandchildren; her brother: Thomas (Audrey) Scarborough of Decatur; her sister: Etna Jean Gray of Decatur; her sisters-in-law: Annie Hurst of Newton and Frances Scarborough of Wesson; and a host of nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her husband: Leon McNeil; her parents: Sidney and Mae Wroten Scarborough; her brothers: Durward Scarborough and Levelle Scarborough
Pallbearers will be Bobby Caldwell, Larry Crader, Dennis Green, Robby Canoy, Tom Gray, Tim Gray, and Bill Freeman.
