C.B. (Chuck) Kirkland, 88, of Huntington, was born June 19, 1918, in Huntington, Texas, the son of the late Willie B. (Knight) and Andrew Jack Kirkland. He passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2006, in a Lufkin hospital.

Mr. Kirkland was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He worked in construction most of his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in the mid-1930's. Mr. Kirkland was a member of Oak Flat Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirkland was preceded in death by his wife, Murnell (Polly) Kirkland, in 1984, as well as three brothers and two sisters.

He was the devoted father of Billy Jack Kirkland and his wife, Judy, and J.A. (Sammy) Kirkland and his wife, Charline; the grandfather of Terry Kirkland and his wife Alicia, Ronnie Kirkland and his wife Shannon, Stephanie Kirkland, and Jeff Kirkland and his wife Kelly.

He is also survived by eight great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; and niece Kathy Caton.

Pallbearers will be Terry Kirkland, Alicia Kirkland, April Kirkland, Kristina Kirkland, Stephanie Kirkland, Ronnie Kirkland, Jeff Kirkland and Roger Mayes. Honorary pallbearers will be Slim Barnes, Robert Griffith, Cathy Richardson and Greg Caton.

Services for Mr. Kirkland will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2006, in the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Harold Collins and Reverend Cary Modisett officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery.
