John T. Purvis is listed in the 1897 Taylor County School census. Six of his children are attendees at Poplar Grove School. They live in the Clipper post office area of Taylor County.
The children are: Mary M., Nancy E., Samuel T., James W., Lee E., and Henry J. Purvis.
From Passing Generations. Thursday, December 11, 1902:
Mrs. Maggie Spratt died at the home of her father, John T. Purvis, in Taylor Co. on the 2nd. Burial in Corinth Cemetery on the 3rd. Comsumption was the cause of death.
In 1900 John T. and Darcus Purvis are living next door to William R. Hash in the Oak Hill district of Taylor County. They have been married 20 years and have 12 children. Most of them are still living at home. living next door is Darcus' mother, Usley (Morrison) Oaks.
In 1910 he is head of household #167 still living in the Oak Hill district. He and Darcus have been married 30 years and she is listed as the mother of 12 children, 11 living. In their household are George, Cora, Jessie, Lula, John, and Minnie. Living next door is 22 year old Eddie E. Purvis and his bride of 4 years and their daughter Emma E. Purvis. I believe this is John's son Lee Purvis and there has been some confusion with his name. If so, his wife is Lillie May ? and she is listed as married 4 years, mother of 4 children, 1 living.
LaRue County Herald News item, Thursday, July 14, 1892: J. T. Purvis has taken the mail route from Brushy to New Hope.
John died in 1929 and is buried in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church cemetery.
