German Statesman. The son of Wilhelm Liebknecht, he became a member of the Reichstag in 1912. He was the first member of the Reichstag who spoke against the war credits in 1914. In the same year he founded together with Rosa Luxemburg, Franz Mehring and Clara Zetkin the 'Spartakusbund.' He was arrested in 1916 and released two years later. In 1918 he was involved in the founding of the KPD (Communist Party of Germany). On January 15, 1919, after the Spartacist uprising he was arrested and later executed.
