John Bach was the son of Simon Bach and Anastasia Benz who were from Baden, Germany. He grew up in Milwaukee, WI and Mendota, IL. He homesteaded near Pine City, WA in 1883 bringing his wife and two small sons, John F. & Harry C., to WA a few weeks after the Northern Route of the NP RR was opened. He farmed and ranched near Pine City for the rest of his life. He married Carrie McClure (Mary E) on May 26, 1880 in Ottowa, LaSalle County, Illinois. They both resided in Mendota, Illinois at the time of their marriage. After their move to Washington state, Carrie suffered from tuberculous. She died in 1905. John continued to farm with the help of his sons until his death in 1935.
