"The Shelby Democrat" (2 April 1896): Amelia Monroe died at her late residence in Noble Township at 1 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 1896, age 89 years, 1 month, 20 days. While Mrs. Monroe was preparing to retire last Thursday evening her clothing caught fire, from the fireplace by which she was badly burned and which caused her death. Her suffering was intense. She leaves 9 children, 6 boys and 3 girls and many grand and great grandchildren to mourn her loss. She was many years a member of M.E. Church. Funeral will be held at Winchester M.E. Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday March 31, 1896. Rev. Cloud officiating. Funeral in charge of Marshall Tindall.

Amelia (Slye) Monroe was the daughter of Samuel Slye and Nancy Ann Prather, and grandaughter of William D. Slye, Soldier of the American Revolution. Amelia Slye was married to John Monroe on April 6, 1827 in Clermont Co., Ohio.
