Named for Universalist minister Rev. John Crenshaw Burruss.
Burruss Cawthon was owner and operator of "The Big Store" in downtown DeFuniak Springs. He owned one of the first automobiles in town, a 1909 Buick Motor Co. touring car with 22hp. He and his wife Ethel built one of the large Victorian homes on Circle Drive.
