Glendive Independent newspaper at the time of death "... in the Glendive newspaper dated Jan. 19, 1889, it was found published under the heading, 'deaths' - "Burns- at Glendive, Mt. Friday, Jan 18, 1889, Charles, son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Burns, aged 7 years, 8 months and 11 days. The funeral ceremonies took place this afternoon at 2 p.m. Interment at the Glendive Cemetery." In the same paper a pubic notice was published which said "John L. and Alice May Burns wish to return thanks to all those who extended a helping hand to them during the death and sickness of their son."
