Melvin E. Brandvold, 82, a lifelong Kathryn area resident, died in Fargo Monday, September 25, 1978.
Melvin Edward Brandvold was born January 22, 1896 in Northland Township in Ransom County the son of Simon and Pauline Brandvold. He was baptized and confirmed in the Nordheim Lutheran Church and received his education in a rural school there.
On December 27, 1923 he married Clara Rue in Moorhead, Minn. They farmed in Northland Township until retiring. He had been in a nursing home in Fargo since July.
Mr. Brandvold was a lifelong member of the Nordheim Lutheran Church. He had served on the Church Board and had been sexton of the cemetery for many years. He served on the Kathryn Elevator Board and was active in the Democratic NPL party.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Leslie of Kathryn and Maurice of Glenfield, a daughter Verna (Mrs.Maurice) Thoreson of Kathryn, two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Benson of St. Cloud, Fla and Mrs. Julia Kolke of Moorhead, Minn., ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were Thursday from Nordheim Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald Ostroot officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
