Quentin Durwood "Kit" Roberts was born July 29, 1918 to Ida Mae Gates and Levin "George" Roberts. He was born in Kountze Hardin County, Texas and lived most of his life on Roberts Road. He passed away Thursday August 11, 2005 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont at the age of 87.

In his early working years "Kit" had no car or other transportation so he would walk from Roberts Road to and from work at the sawmill in Kountze. About this time his good friend Virgil Jordan was dating Ellen Bozeman. So one day Virgil invited Kit to go with him down to the Bozeman farm, which was near the Wheeler farm, to visit Ellen. There he met Ellen's first cousin Dopsy Katherine Wheeler.

Kit and Dopsy were married in 1939 and in 1940 soon after their son George was born they moved to Beaumont for a short time. They then moved to Orange, Texas where Kit was employed at the shipyard. In 1944 Kit entered the US Navy and served during World War II until 1946.

Upon returning home Kit and his family lived in Kountze and he worked at Crosby's Humble Gas station and eventually got into carpentry. In 1950 they moved back to Roberts Road where he lived for the rest of his life. He enjoyed his work as a carpenter but also enjoyed his leisure time fishing in Village Creek, gardening, grafting citrus and other fruit trees, bar-b-queing and visiting with friends, relatives, neighbors and strangers.....

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Georgia Inez Cleveland and survived by his wife Dopsy Roberts of Kountze; son, George and wife Brenda; granddaughter, Amy and husband William; great grandsons, Taylor Austin "Two Town" and Garrett; nieces and nephews, Robert and Sue, Jackie and Jimmy, Kitty and Gerry and numerous great nieces and nephews.
