SEAGRAVES-Jimmy Jim Sherrod Eddins was born on Sept. 9, 1929, in Estelline, Texas, to Wendell and Bonnie Eddins. Coach Eddins passed from this earth on Sept. 20, 2013, at age 84. Funeral services for Mr. Eddins will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Seagraves with Rev. Floyd Haddock officiating. Burial will follow at Gaines County Cemetery in Seagraves.

Jim graduated from Sudan High School and from there went to Texas Tech University, where he played basketball for the Red Raiders under Coach Polk Robinson. After graduating from Tech he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Jim married the love of his life, Virgie, in 1959, and they began their long and prosperous career in education of Teaching and Coaching. Jim started his coaching career in Spur, then moved to Sundown, Crosbyton, and then went on to a very successful career in Seagraves, where he served as the athletic director, head football and head basketball coach for many years.

After retiring, Jim enjoyed playing golf, drinking coffee, and keeping up with his two grandsons, whom he loved dearly. Jim was a past director of the Texas High School Coaches Assoc., and a longtime member of the Seagraves Rotary Club, and First United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff of Quail Ridge for their continued care and support of Coach.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie; brother, Bill; and parents. He is survived by a son, Jim Paul and wife Lisa of Midland, Texas; two grandsons, Cody and wife Michelle of Arlington, Texas, and Derek of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law, Bobbi and husband Ken Thompson of Ft. Worth, Texas; niece, Monti Hackenberg and husband Stan of Boerne, Texas; nephew, Rob Eddins and wife Robin of North Richland Hills, Texas; and great-niece, Alexandra Eddins of Abilene, Texas. Family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Seagraves Senior Citizens.
