Mrs. Laverne Carlton Griffith, 82, was called home by our Lord Jesus at 9 PM on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 from her residence in Hico, LA. She was born on Jan. 2, 1929 in Wilmont, Arkansas, the daughter of Leon Carlton and Lena McElroy. Visitation will be on Friday, Nov. 25, 2011 from 5-7 PM at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA. Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Fellowship Baptist Church in Fellowship, LA. Internment will take place at the Tubb Family Cemetery on the Griffith Family Farm immediately following the service. She is survived by her husband, David Max Griffith Sr., whom she wed on Dec. 9, 1946 in Dubach, LA; three sons: David Max Griffith Jr. and Laverne Doss Griffith of West Monroe, Richard Earl Griffith and Lana Griffith of West Monroe, Michael Eugene and Anita Griffith of Ruston; daughter: Mary Griffith and Roger Cox of Hico; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter: Kelly Griffith; daughter-in-law: Linda Brown Griffith; seven sisters and four brothers. Laverne was an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church until she became home-bound. She was a homemaker for 65 years, taking care of her family while her husband worked. She was a very devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed greatly.
