She was born in Delnice, Croatia, the daughter of Petar Plese and Palona nee Mihelcic. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1902, living in Calumet, Michigan. She married there her first husband, Josip Tomac, who was her cousin. She had two sons with him. After his death, she remarried to Frank Racki and had a daughter and son with him. They moved to Paw Paw, Michigan where they had a fruit farm and farm stand.
