He was born October 8, 1919, at Baileyville, KS, the son of Frank and Mary Agnes Osterhaus Deters. He attended Baileyville schools and helped on the family farm.
In November, 1942, he was inducted into the U.S. Army where he served during World War II as an engineer for 32 months in Normandy and Germany. He was discharged in November, 1945. He returned to the farm west of Centralia, where he farmed until he retired in 1980. He was a farmer, raised livestock and had a dairy. He enjoyed gardening and raising chickens.
He married Florence Ronnebaum on February 14, 1953, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Baileyville, KS. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in 1998. She survives.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Society at Seneca, KS. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville.
Besides his wife, Florence, he is survived by son, Gerald Deters, Princeton, KS; daughters, Mary Ann Deck, Oklahoma City, OK; Jolene Fairchild, Overbrook, KS; Cynthia Schreiner, Centralia, KS; Connie Jackson, Topeka, KS; brothers, Aloysius Deters, Centralia, KS; Francis Deters, Centralia, KS; sisters, Marie Stallbaumer, Seneca, KS; Clara Krogman, Baileyville, KS; Emma Holthaus, Holton, KS; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca, KS. Burial was in the church cemetery.
