James L. WELLS, eldest son of Sarah A. (Pennington) and George W. WELLS, was born April 22, 1875, in Grundy county, Missouri. He departed this life December 4, 1952, at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, after suffering a stroke December 1st. He had been in ill health for several years.

On October 2, 1895, he was united in marriage to Clara MOLER, of Redding. To this union were born seven children, Mabel HOGUE, of Kellerton, Treva WAUGH, of Lamoni, Edith DILLION of Des Moines, Raymond WELLS, of Richmond, Calif., and George and Vivian WELLS of Mount Ayr.

He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter, Beulah. Besides his children he leaves to mourn his passing his brother, Edgar, three half-brothers, one half-sister, 23 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, December 7, at two o'clock, from the Rhoades Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, conducted by the Rev. A. R. WEED, of Lamoni. Music was furnished by Mrs. C. E. BOSWORTH and Mrs. John ENGLAND, with Margaret PENCE at the organ. Casketbearers were John BLAUER, C. E. BOSWORTH, J. B. JONES, John GILES, Walter TAPP and Earl ECKERMAN. Interment was in the Redding cemetery. The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1952.
