Sophia Houston was the daughter of Purnell Houston and Mary Carey Tomlinson. On 21 Dec 1803, she married William Dean, son of John Wilson Dean and Mary Walton, in Monongalia County, (West) Virginia. The Deans later moved to Harrison County, Kentucky and, around 1831, to Jackson Township, Putnam County, Indiana.
William and Sophia had at least 12 children:
Mary Walton Hardin, John Wilson Dean, Sarah Ragsdale, Jesse Burton, Elizabeth, Nancy H., Amelia Powell-Perkins, William H., Sophia H., James T., Lucinda Ann and Laurana Grantham .
