James was living with Franklin or Francis Yocum family on the 1850 Census Montgomery Co. Kentucky

His son James Brush and daughter-in-law Nancy Lawson Brush lost both of their fathers with-in a few years. Nancy's father Jeremiah M Lawson is buried close by. Both of their graves were marked with similar field stones with their initials on them. We believe James Brush's middle name was Oscar. He is listed on military records in Kentucky and Virginia with the middle initial O.

Grave stone was put down by descendants in the 1970's it was thought his middle name was "David" because his oldest son is James David Brush. But initials are hand carved and hard to read so JDB could be JOB.


There is said to be an unknown woman buried next to James Brush. We don't know if it is his first wife Margaret Wymore Yocum Brush. Or possibly a second wife.
