SHREVEPORT- Funeral services celebrating the life of Vernon D. Adams, 82, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday November 23, 2011 at Summer Grove Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Murry Hodge and Rev. Billy Crosby. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday November 22, 2011 at Rose-Neath's Southside Funeral Home and at the church Wednesday before the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Vernon was born on August 6, 1929 in Logansport, LA to Lewis and Katie Adams. He passed away on November 20, 2011. He was a resident of Shreveport and a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School at Summer Grove Baptist Church and Springs of Grace Church. He preached at the Rescue Mission and served in the Prison Ministry of Mike Barber. He was chairman of the North West Baptist Association of Prison Ministries. Vernon was an active member of the Loins Club and Optimists Club. He served this country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a graduate of the school of Consumer Banking at the University of Virginia and retired from Capital One Bank, (formerly Pioneer Bank) with more than 49 years of service. He studied Law at Centenary College. He was owner and operator of Adams Christmas Tree Farm where he enjoyed riding his tractor and playing golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, former wife, Norma Adams. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Posey Adams; daughters, Sandra King and husband, Joe, Vicki Pendleton and husband, Randy; stepdaughter, Julia Smith and husband, Tracy; stepson, Kenneth Posey and wife, Janice; grandchildren, Danny Cotten and wife, Donna, Katy Watson, Ainsley Watson, Clay Upchurch, Tyler and Katie Smith; great-grandchildren, Cali Poole, Kelsa Martin, and Brandon Cotten; brothers, Wayne Adams and wife Stella, Dan Adams and wife, Pam and Herbert Adams; sister, Macel Wilhite and husband, J.B.

Pallbearers will be Terry Hayes, Melvin Butler, Bob Salley, Russell Adams, Joe Leone and John Milkovich.

The family request that memorials be made in Vernon's name to Summer Grove Baptist church.
