Mildred was the daughter of Elijah and Susan E. Hasty Garrett. She was a teacher who journeyed to the Philippines to teach. In Manila, she met and married her husband, James Layton Booth in September, 1910. James was an American doctor working in the Philippines. She taught there for several years and passed away after a short illness. Her body was cremated and after the death of her husband a few years later, her ashes were returned to her parents for burial. They are buried near their grave in Garrett Cemetery.
