US Congressman. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he moved to St. Clairsville, Ohio, in 1799, engaged in mercantile pursuits, in banking and was delegate to the convention for the first constitution of Ohio He was clerk of the court of Belmont County, Ohio, (1806-10), was a member of the Ohio State Senate (1809-12) and served as Captain in an Ohio Regiment in the War of 1812. In 1813, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Congresses, serving until 1817. After his term, he resumed his banking and mercantile business in St. Clairsville, Ohio. He died May 5, 1838, at age 67 while on a visit in Wheeling, West Virginia.
