Sylvester L. Bowman, 89, a resident of Sturgis for 15 years, died Sunday at the home of his son, Rube Bowman in LeRoy, Michigan. He had been seriously ill for a week.

Mr. Bowman was born in 1852 in Hartford City, Indiana, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Bowman, and with the exception of the 15 years he lived here, he had spent most of his life in LeRoy. He and Miss Dorcas Simonton were married in Shidler, Indiana, May 26, 1876 [May 12, 1877]. Mr. Bowman had been a carpenter for many years.

Funeral services will be held in the Moon Funeral Home, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Walter F. Jacobs officiating. Burial will be made in Oaklawn Cemetery.

The aged man leaves five sons, Edson R. and Frank A. of Sturgis, Rube and Roscoe of LeRoy and H. C. of Flint, Michigan; a daughter, Mrs. Edith Barnell of Sturgis; 23 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
