Donald G. Shandera, 80, a longtime Kimball County, Neb., resident, died at Kimball Health.

He was born Nov. 5, 1925, in David City, Neb. At an early age he moved with his family to the farm in Kimball County. He attended Kimball County schools and graduated from the Bushnell High School. He then continued to work with his father on the family farm north of Bushnell. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Aug. 16, 1946, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 28, 1947.

He married Elizabeth Janesofsky on Nov. 22, 1950, in Pine Bluffs.

He enjoyed farming and attending farm sales. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Kimball; son Gary Shandera of Pine Bluffs; daughters, Donna Woitaszewski of Cheyenne, Diana Engstrom of Kimball, Carol Lukassen of Kimball, Connie Colton of Bismark, N.D., and Geri Parsons of Fort Collins, Colo.; brother, Dale Shandera of Cottonwood, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

His parents and brothers, Walter and Richard, preceded him in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesdayat St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Karnish officiating.

Burial will follow in the Kimball Cemetery.

Military graveside honors will be preformed by Kimball Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2243.

A Christian Wake service will be held 7 p.m. Monday at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball.

Friends may call at the funeral home 1-8 p.m. Monday.

Friends may contribute to the Kimball Senior Center.
