Calvin Sr. was described as a tall, big-boned man with a high forehead. Calvin's son Albert wrote to his niece, Maud Thomson in 1925, that his Dad may have been born in Boone County, KY., his father died when he was 12, and he had a brother David and 3 sisters. Calvin came to LA about 1836. David reportedly moved to PA. Albert also said that his ggrandfather was in the Revolutionary War and pioneered in KY with Daniel Boone. Some of his ancestors think he could have lived in Caldwell County, KY. Calvin was 1st a member of Olive Lodge #52, Free & Accepted Masons, Clinton, LA, initiated in 1851, and raised a Master Mason in 1852. He last paid dues at Olive Lodge in 1859. Moved to Amite City, LA around 1860-61 and no later than 1866 to Livingston Parish after the Civil War and engaged in sawmill operations until his death in 1888. Calvin built his home at French Settlement in section 46, township 9, S. Range 4E. He had 17 children and also raised other's children. He was 22 years older than his second wife but outlived her by 12 years. He was 35 years older than his third wife and died at 72 one month before his last child was born. He is buried without a marker.
