Mr. Schaefer served in the United States Air Force for 20 years retiring in 1971 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He received the PURPLE HEART and the Air Medal in Vietnam.
He was employed by American Home Products Corp. and Hartz Mountain Corp. for 22 years, retiring in 1993. Mr. Schaefer was a life member of the VFW post 1114, Evansville, Indiana. He was a member of the International Combat Camera Association. He volunteered at the March Field Air Museum. Mr. Schaefer was an active member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1638.
He is survived by his wife Annie; his daughter Patricia Schaefer Smith of North Carolina; sons Patrick Schaefer of Victorville and Daniel Schaefer of San Bernardino; eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and brother Roy Schaefer of Joshua Tree. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, 7005 Brockton Avenue in Riverside on Monday, July 25 at 10:30 am, preceded by recitation of the Rosary at 10:00am In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
