VIRGINIA BEACH - Daniel A. Haase, 81, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, July 22, 2011. He was born in Milwaukee, Nov. 30, 1929. He attended Catholic schools in Milwaukee including a culinary school where he began using his love and talent for cooking. In 1947 he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served two terms. After his military service he made his home in Virginia Beach. He opened a small restaurant in Berkley and continued his passion for cooking. He later took employment with Curtis Bay Towing Co. where he spent 25 years as a mate and captain on the water. A few years before retiring form Curtis Bay, he opened his own business, Haase's Nautical Antiques. After 39 successful years he and his wife, Sylvia, retired in 2009. Dan attended St. Gregory's Catholic Church, and was actively involved in the parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the men's club and sang in the church choir. He was the head usher and served on the Parish Council and was a Eucharist minister. Dan is survived by his wife, Sylvia; two daughters, Lisa Anthony and Denise Haase; two stepdaughters, Karla Willis and Elicia Norman and a stepson, Chris Jolly. He is also the grandfather of five grandchildren, Rachel, William, Mark, John and Lauren. A visitation for friends and family will be held at the Woodlawn Funeral Home chapel, 6329 East Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Included will be a Knights of Columbus Challis ceremony at 7 p.m. A funeral will be held at St. Gregory's Catholic Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Father Mario Fulgenzi officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
