DR. EDWARD HUNTER BOGGS DIES IN CHARLESTON SEPT 22
Edward Hunter Boggs, M. D., 72 retired dermatologist, died at his Charleston home September 22.
He was born in Franklin on November 21, 1910, and was the youngest child of William McCoy Boggs and Beatrice Hiner Boggs. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
He was married twice, the first wife being Evelyn Priest of Morgantown. His surviving widow is Carolyn Chisholm Boggs of Charleston.
Additional survivors are three children; John Hunter Boggs, Houston, Texas, Thomas Edward Boggs, Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. M. D. (Janet) Stout III, Greensboro, N.C.; two step-children, Col. Charles Stebbins, Alexandria, Va., and Mrs. Stanley (Anne) Chase, Paducah, Ky.; six grandchildren, three nieces and three nephews.
He attended Franklin Grade School, Franklin and Morgantown High School, Potomac State School, West Virginia and Northwestern Universities. He interned at Ohio Valley Hospital, Wheeling, and practiced general medicine in Chester from 1937-1941.
He had his dermatology training at the New York Postgraduate Skin and Cancer Hospital. He was in the navy as a medical officer during World War II, being assigned to the 21st Marines in 1942 and 1943.
He was a member of the First Prebyterian Church of Charleston, Berry Hills County Club, the Kanawha Valley Medical Society, the West Virginia Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He belonged to Phi Sigma Nu (Potomac State, Kappa Sigma (WVU) and Phi Beta Pi (WVU and Northwestern Medical Schools) fraternities.
He was named for Dr. Hunter McGuire, Confederate surgeon, who operated on the wounded Stonewall Jackson in 1863.
