I surmise that Thomas Steele must have died about the time of Thomas Calvin Steele's birth since Mary had already married before the younger Thomas was three.
By 1910 Mary's daughter, Mary Ann, had given birth to her own daughter; born about 1908 and named Esther. Mary Ann would have been only 16 and unmarried at the time of Esther's birth. Her daughter carried the Steele surname.
