Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Burress Funeral Home for Mrs. Joel Goodman, 55, life- long resident of Del Norte. Rev. R.C. Enyart officiated.
Nettie May Goodman was born in Del Norte, September 3, 1890, the third daughter of Danial B. and Ida B. Sanders (nee Jones). Her death followed a brief illness and an injury which was at first considered slight.
Her entire life was spent in the Del Norte community where she attended the elementary, grand and high schools. On December 21, 1909, she was married to Joel Goodman. To this union one child was born, Velma. Mr. Goodman has been connected with the distribution of irrigation water for years and the family lived for 31 years at the headgates of the Rio Grande Canal. Throughout her life she was deeply devoted to her home and family. She took delight in keeping an attractive house and always loved a garden and flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Joel Goodman; her daughter, Mrs. Velma Alspaugh, of Creede, her son in law, Lyle Alspaugh; one grandson, Everett; her sister, Mrs. Lola Goodman; two nieces, Mrs. Wealthy Donahue and Mrs. Garnet Willyard; a nephew, Oscar Goodman, and a number of other relatives.
Mrs. Goodman was a loving and devoted wife and mother, and a good neighbor. Unassuming in her conduct as she was, her life always rang true and was a source of inspiration to those who knew her. Her influence will long continue, for what a person does for himself dies with him, but what he does for others lives forever.
