Mr. Whittaker died Saturday as result of chain saw accident on his farm in Madison, MO. Body was cremated.
He was born Dec. 23, 1929 in Denver to George W. and Daisy R. Whittaker. Family moved to Rocky Ford in 1943.
He graduated from RFHS with class of 1948 and from San Jose, CA, State College. He served in the United States navy during the Korean conflict.
He married Margaret Barnes Hadden, July 23, 1952 in Rocky Ford.
He was employed by Whittaker Agency in Rocky Ford and then was Otero County director of Office Economic Opportunity in LaJunta.
He went to Kansas City where he worked for OEO. He later transferred to Denver, where before his retirement, he was employed by federal Housing and Urban Developement in Denver.
He was a member of Rocky Ford Elks Lodge and of Rocky Ford Jaycees.
Surviving are his widow, two daughters, Linda (Frank) Hoover of Rocky Ford and Rebecca (David) Miller of Seal Beach, CA. and two grandsons, Merret and Ian Hoover of Rocky Ford.
He also leaves his mother, Daisy Whittaker of Rocky Ford; one sister, Lois (John) Schweigert of Denver and two brothers George *Bill* (Bonnie) Whittaker and Wayne (Mary Alice) Whittaker both of Rocky Ford and his mother-in-law, Mildred Haddan, also of Rocky Ford.
He was preceded in death by his father; a son, John, and a grandson, John Jacob Hoover.
