Betty K. Ahlgrim, 83, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord at 7:56 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center.
Betty was born June 4, 1928 in Newton, IL, the daughter of Lloyd and Jennis Kibler Koontz. She married Richard Ahlgrim on August 13, 1948 in Gary, IN.
Betty was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School in Gary, IN and Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, PA. She worked for Horace Mann Educators Insurance in group underwriting for 26 years, retiring in 2001. She was a past commander of AWANA and voted Pastor's Wife of the Year by the Illinois Sunday School Association. She was very much involved in church, teaching Sunday School and adult Bible classes. She also sang soprano in the church choir and was the Camp Dean at Illinois/Missouri Baptist Youth Camp for many years. Betty was a very generous, joyful and faithful mom and grandma who was happily married for over 63 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her loving husband, Rev. Richard Ahlgrim of Springfield; son, Timothy A. (wife, Bonnie) Ahlgrim of Lafayette, IN; daughter, Debra Jean (husband, Stephen) Cole of Springfield; grandchildren, Benjamin D. Ahlgrim of Elizabethtown, PA, Allison R. Ahlgrim of Phoenix, AZ, Joshua S. Cole of Springfield and Stephanie A. Cole of East Troy, WI; siblings, Dean (wife, Grace) Koontz of Cool, CA and Doris Gillen of Forsythe.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:30-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Berean Baptist Church, 3401 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Berean Baptist Church with The Rev. David R. Fox officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
