Obituary - POCATELLO - Wright Capener Hanks, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 24, 2010, at Quinn Meadows Rehabilitation and Care Center in Pocatello.

Wright was born December 17, 1918 in Tetonia, Idaho to David Capener Hanks and Emma Wright Hulet Hanks. He had a large, loving family of 4 brothers, 3 sisters, 5 half brothers, and 1 half sister. He grew up in Tetonia, Idaho, helping on the family farm. Wright attended elementary school in Tetonia and graduated from Driggs High School, in Driggs, Idaho in 1937. While in high school he participated in football, basketball, track, band, and choir.

Wright attended Idaho State College in Pocatello, graduating with a degree in Pharmacy in 1943. It was during his time at college that Wright met his wife, Esther Hansen, at an LDS Institute dance. They were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in 1944. Wright and Esther had four daughters – Annette, Susan, Julie, and Sylvia. They have 19 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

Wright joined the Navy after college and served in World War II working mostly overseas in the Philippines. After the war, Wright spent many happy years working as a pharmacist, a job he loved. He worked 8 years for Walgreen's in Salt Lake City and Pocatello, 16 years for Cook Drug in downtown Pocatello, and 17 years for Osco Drug, also in Pocatello. He developed many wonderful and long-lasting friendships from his work as a pharmacist.

Wright was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life. He served as Bishop of the Pocatello 4th Ward and as Branch President of the Saint Anthony Branch in Pocatello. He also served in two other Bishoprics and many other various callings in the Church. He and his wife, Esther, served an LDS mission in the Philippines, Manila Mission from 1987 to 1989.

Wright enjoyed golfing, bowling, music, photography, and traveling, but he mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Wright was preceded in death by his wife Esther, his parents David and Emma Hanks, his brother Clair Hanks, his half brothers Adrian Cook, Harvard Hanks, Gus Hanks, Earl Hanks, Ted Hanks, and his half sister Mae Hanks.

He is survived by his daughters Annette (Glenn McMinn), Susan (Ed Axford), Julie (Karle Armitage), Sylvia (Stan Belnap), his brothers Lincoln Hanks, David Hanks, Phillip Hanks, his sisters Davida Green, Betty Misseldine, Louise Gohnert, 19 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Wright will be held Friday, May 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Caldwell Park Building at 156 South 7th and Center in Pocatello. A viewing will be held Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 South 4th Ave and again on Friday morning at the LDS Caldwell Park Building for one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the funeral at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
