Gladys Louise Bodewitz was born July 21, 1936 to Sander and Angelina (Langstraat) Roos in Sheldon, IA, Osceola County. As a young girl she moved with her family to Chandler, MN in 1941. She was baptized and confessed her faith at the Reformed Church and attended Chandler Public schools, graduating in 1954 from Chandler High School.
On November 9, 1956 Gladys married Andrew Bodewitz at the Chandler Reformed Church. They made their home in Valley Springs, SD for two years before moving to California, where they remained for the next 38 years. They moved back to Minnesota in 1997 and have been on Lake Shetek for all of the last 10 years.
While in California Gladys owned and operated her own business in Oakhurst, CA called "Country-Gal-Fabrics." She was active in her church and her community. Gladys was a member of the Slayton Reformed Church and a past member of the Chandler Reformed Church, where she had been a Bible School helper and Sunday School teacher. Her community involvement was as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Teachers Aid for many years. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, bird watching, flower gardening, garage sales and church functions, such as the church cookie exchange parties, but she loved to spend time with family and friends and go on fishing trips with them.
On Sunday, September 9, 2007, Gladys died at her home on Lake Shetek at the age of 71.
Gladys is survived by her husband, Andy of Slayton, MN; four sons, Rick of Junction City, OR, Darrell and Marina of Chino Hills, CA, Duane and Judy of Cypress, CA and Bryan of Lakewood, CA; one daughter, Michelle of Long Beach, CA; seven grandchildren, three brothers, Henry (Deanna) Roos of Yucca Valley, CA, Alex (Linnea) Roos of Angie Inlet, MN and Larry (Twyla) Roos of Pipestone, MN; two sisters, Helene Wakeman of Hawarden, IA and Alvina (Bob) Pool of Cerritos, cA; and many nieces and nephews.
