Cosma E. "Cosy" Hemphill, 81, rural Bovey, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 in her home surrounded by her children.

Born April 28, 1930 in Linden Grove Township, St. Louis County, Minn., she was the daughter of Frank and Clara (Jary) Fredlund. Cosma grew up in Bear River, was a 1948 graduate of the Alango High School, and had lived most of her life in rural Bovey. Cosma and Lloyd Hemphill were married on July 16, 1949 in Bear River. Cosma had been a home maker and had also owned and operated the Big Swirl for 22 years. She had been a member of the Lawron Presbyterian Church and Guild and the Grand Rapids Women's Bowling Association.

Her parents, Frank and Clara Fredlund; her husband, Lloyd "Spud" in 1993; brothers, Myron and Russel Fredlund; and a sister, Joy Anderson preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Shelley (Dave) Middleton of Grand Rapids, Vickie (Bill) Broberg of Coleraine, Beth (Jeff) Pederson of Balsam, and Randy (RuthAnne) Hemphill of Grand Rapids; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Vivian Fredlund of California and Frank (Janet) Fredlund Jr. of St. Peter, Minn.; sisters, Fran (Ray) Scofield of Bear River and Colleen Joki of Cherry.

Interment will be in the Bearville Cemetery.
