He was the son of Jeremiah Crate and Amanda Gunter Arnold. He was married to Lucretia M Hunter on August 2, 1870, next to Susan C Polston on August 3, 1879, then to Sally Hicks on October 9, 1897, and then to Mary V Monroe on April 26, 1914, all of these marriage occurred in Weakley County, Tennessee.
