This monument was erected by William Cutter Tenney only son of William and Phebe Tenney born in Newmarket July 26, 1817. Graduated at Harvard University 1838. Died in Kansas City, Mo June 23, 1901. Buried in Elmwood Cemetery. Back: William Tenney Esq., Captain William Tenney born in Hollis, Sept 13, 1785. Graduated Dartmouth 1808. A member of the New Hampshire Bar. Died in Newmarket Sept 15 1838. Phebe Wheeler, his wife born in Salem, NH Feb 4, 1781, married July 1815, died in Newmarket April 23, 1838. Their bodies are buried here. Left: Caroline Phebe only daughter of William and Phebe Tenney. Born in Newmarket May 13, 1821. Went as a missionary to China in 1850. Was married in Shanghai to Rev Cleveland Keith April 1854. Died on her return for her health in San Francisco, July 10, 1862. Was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Brookline, NY, May 11, 1863. Front: Filial gratitude to most devoted and self sacrificing parents. Fraternal love for a most affectionate sister, intensified with the lapse of years prompt this tribute of the only son and brother. ~thank you Laurie!
