Mrs. Lois Clota Jean Carringer Shelton, age 77, of Old Hwy 5 S., Ellijay, GA, died Monday evening, November 14, 2011, at her residence, following a brave and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mrs. Shelton was born February 14, 1934, the youngest daughter of the late Thomas C. Carringer and Kitty Jenkins Carringer. She had previously lived for many years in Sylva, Jackson County, NC, where she worked as a cook at High Hampton Inn. She also worked in the manufacturing industry. Jean loved flowers, especially roses, and was very fond of all animals.
Other than her parents, Jean was preceded in death by three brothers: Bruce and Neal Carringer, both of Brasstown, NC, and Jack Carringer of Ellijay; two sisters: Doris Carringer Byers of Brasstown and Ada Carringer Crisp of Robbinsville, NC; a nephew, Rickey H. Carringer of Ellijay, and a niece. Susan Carringer, of Indiana.
Survivors include her husband: Mr. Newman Shelton of Ellijay; sons and daughters in-law: Greg and Diane Shelton, Pat and Kathy Shelton; daughters and sons in-law, Debbie Shelton, Marsha and Sam Buntin, Rhonda and James Owens, all of Ellijay; brothers: Ted Carringer of Warsaw, Indiana; T.C. and Vickie Carringer, Edger and Kathy Carringer, all of Ellijay; sisters in-law: Mrs. Louzelle McCray Carringer of Hayesville, NC, Ms. Reba Harris of Rosman, NC, and Mrs. Dorene Dills Carringer of Ellijay; nine grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 2 pm from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Pastor Irene Wofford and Brother Pat Shelton officiating. Interment will follow in the Yukon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 16th, from noon until 9 pm at the Bernhardt Funeral Home.
