Obituary in The Allentown Morning Call, Allentown, Pa., Wednesday, 27 Feb. 1929, pg. 7:
Ill for the past seven years since being taken ill at work, Amandus [spelled Amandes on tombstone] DeLong, a lifelong resident of Lehigh county, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Solden Keinert, near Ritter's switch, Allentown R.5, yesterday. He was 81 years, 5 months and 2 [sic 21 days per tombstone] days of age. For twenty-five years Mr. DeLong was employed at the Donaldson Iron Works. He was taken sick while at work about seven years ago and has been ailing since that time. He was born in Lehigh county, the son of the late Paul and Susanna (nee Eisenhard) DeLong. Surviving are the following children: Elmer, Allentown; Charles, Emaus; Mrs. [Annie Laura] Keinert, with whom he made his home; Mrs. William Hersh, Bethlehem; Mrs. Elmer Roeder, Emaus; Mrs. Howard Stoudt, Vera Cruz; Mrs. Nelson Miller, Alburtis. One sister, Mrs. Alvin Wolf, Allentown; a step-sister, Mrs. Samuel Benner, Emaus; four step-brothers, Harvey, Wilson and Peter DeLong, Emaus; and Jacob DeLong, Green Lane, as well as twenty-one grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held at the Keinert home on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock with further services to follow in the Reformed Church, Old Zionsville. The Rev. J. N. Blatt will officiate. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

The 1880 Upper Milford, Lehigh County, Pa. census lists the following: Amandus DeLong (age 32), repairing railroads, his wife Maria (32) and children Annie (9), Elmer (6), Charles (5), Maria (4), Tillie [Matilda] (1) and an infant son (11 months)[tombstone indicates he died at 11 days].
The 1900 Upper Milford, Lehigh County, Pa. census lists:
Amandus DeLong (52)(b.Sep. 1847), married 30 years, laborer at foundry, and wife Maria (51) (b. Mar. 1848), children Alice (28) (b. June 1871), Charles (24)(b. June 1874)-day laborer, Amanda (14) (b. Dec. 1855), at school, Mabel (12)(b. Oct. 1887), at school, and Cora (8)(b. May 1892), at school.
