MRS. V. C. ALLEN, WIFE OF FORMER CHANCELLOR

DAYTON, Tenn., June 25. – Mrs. Emily King Allen, who died at her home here this morning at 6:15 o’clock, was born in Decatur, Tenn., Feb. 1, 1845. She was the daughter of Dr. Aaron King and Jane Lillard King. Dr. King wa a native of Lincoln county, Tennessee, and his wife was the daughter of James Lillard, of Decatur, and a sister of Col. John M. Lillard of the Twenty-sixth Tennessee regiment, and Col. N. J. Lillard, of the Third Tennessee regiment, C.S.A. Her parents died when she was quite small and she was reared by her grandpartents, Mr. and Mrs. James Lillard. She was married to V. C. Allen, late chancellor of the Twelfth chancery division of Tennessee, Feb. 13, 1866, the day she was 21 years old. She was a faithful member of the M. E. church, south, and very active in church work as long as her health permitted. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. C. D. Broyles, of Chattanooga; Mrs. F. E. Cunnyngham, of Eckman, W. Va.; Miss Jennie K. Allen and W. B. Allen, of Dayton; thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

She married Valentine Allen III on 13 Feb 1866 in Meigs, Tennessee, USA. They had at least the following children:
