James Richard Hopwood, 100, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away November 8, 2017. He was born on June 12, 1917 to Benjamin and Hannah Hopwood in Clark County, Indiana. In 1937, he married Aline Sutton. She preceded him in death after 75 loving years of marriage. His life was a testament to his honesty, his integrity and his Christian faith. He was a dedicated member of Rosemont Baptist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Eastern Star and was a Kentucky Colonel. He loved to help others, loved to work and was passionate about his career in manufacturing. He was a distinguished Manufacturing Engineer at IBM.

He loved his family and is survived by his son, Roger (Nancy) Hopwood; two daughters, Carolyn (Robert) Averitt and Barbara (Roger) Stephens; grandchildren, James M. Hopwood, Rebecca (Leo) Labrillazo, Jeffrey (Lorie) Averitt, Elizabeth Averitt, Robert Kail III, Carrie (Thomas) Trovillion, Marc (Karen) Stephens, Brooke Stephens, Melanie Hopwood and LeaAnn Cooley; great-grandchildren: Andrew, Michael, Christopher, Jesse, Hannah, Jake, Mikayla, Lucas, Ashbrook, Sutton, Lisa, Justin, RJ, Riley, William and Benjamin; nieces and nephews. Other than his wife, Aline, he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters and a grandson Robert Matthew โ€œBobbyโ€ Averitt.

The family would like to thank the faithful members and staff of Rosemont Baptist Church and the compassionate aides, nurses and staff at Morning Pointe.

Funeral will be Sunday at 3pm, with visitation from 2-3pm, at Milward-Southland. Graveside service and burial will be Monday at 11am at Charlestown Cemetery in Charlestown, Indiana. Contributions may be made to Rosemont Baptist Church, 556 Rosemont Garden, Lexington 40503 or Hospice.
