Catherine Stine, daughter of Mary and Elias Stine, was born in 1837 near Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana, where her family farmed, and her father entered land in 1837. The Stine's family migrated to McLean County, Illinois, in 1848-49, and in 1850 were enumerated in that county's Old Town Township. Elias Stine died in 1852.

Catherine Stine and Peter "Ridenower" were married on 25 November 1859 in McLean County. The couple were enumerated in 1860, 1865, and 1870 in McLean's Arrowsmith Township, where the couple's six or seven children were born.* By 1880, the Ridenour family was farming in Washington Township, Defiance County, Ohio. Peter Ridenour's parents were also farming in that township.†

Catherine Ridenour died between 1880 and 1900. In the 1900 U.S. Census for Mark Township, Defiance County, Ohio, Peter Ridenour was a widower, living in a brother's household.
