The deceased was a retired farmer and a native of Montgomery County where he had spent most of his life. He was a member of the North Thompson Baptist Church and the son of the late Eulie and Ella Taylor Wilkes.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Luta Humphrey Wilkes of Vidalia; one daughter, Mrs. Thurla Smith, Vidalia; one son, Newburn Wilkes of Vidalia; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; five sisters: Mrs. Abbie Williamson, Soperton, Mrs. Alma Dickey, Jacksonville, Fla., Miss Lora Wilkes, Mrs. Lennie Holt, Mrs. Roy Mills, all of Macon and one brother, Abbie Wilkes of Lizella; several nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were Milon Gay, Duel Davis, Nelson Gay, Marvin Beasley, Ray Sellers, and Charles Humphrey. Honorary pallbearers included Cecil Conaway, William King, Eugene Cannady, J.E. Willis, Alton Davis, Mack Blaxton, Lloyd Conaway and Walter Banks.
