Obituary from the Iroquois County Democrat; May 9,1899. Mrs. Mary Flynn Kane

Mrs. Mary Kane, widow of the late John Kane, died Monday afternoon May 15, 1899, of heart failure, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Morris Kane of this city, aged 83 years, 6 months, and 14 days.

"Grandma" Kane was one of our city's oldest people and her death was not unexpected for she had been feeble for some time.

Her daughter-in-law, from whom she has had the tenderest care for many years, was with her when the summons came, as were also her grand-daughters, Mrs. Chas. Wright, and Mrs. Geo. Eastburn.

Mary Lynn [sic] was born in Kerry County Ireland, November 1, 1815 and was married to John Kane April 10, 1839.

The children of this union were Daniel, Morris, Nora, and Anna, who have all preceded her.

The family came to Bloomington, Ill., in the spring of 1857, removing from there to Old Middleport in 1862. For many years they lived near Iroquois and here the husband and father died May 23, 1887. [sic]

Her only remaining child, Morris Kane, died April 23, 1890, and since this time "Grandma" has held an honored place in the home of his wife and children.

Mrs. Mary Kane was a woman of true worth and those who knew her respected and honored her.

Her heart and soul were in the work of the church to which she belonged and before the infirmities of age and ill health weighed too heavily upon her she gave much of her time and best endeavor to its service.

Her passing was calm and peaceful, she having received the last rights of the church she loved and was at peace with God and man.

A solemn mass was celebrated over the remains by Rev. Father Mainville of Hoopeston in the Roman Catholic church of this city, after which interment was made in Prairie Dell cemetery beside her husband and two children."
