Wade Belshe was the fourth child (2nd son) of Childress Webster Belshe and Virginia Ramos' 'unión libre' (i.e. common law marriage). He grew up in the small Mexican village known as Chamal Nuevo. Some time in the 60s the official name of the town was changed to Adolfo Lopez Mateos, the 80th president of Mexico from 1958-64. However, most people in the region to this day use 'Chamal Nuevo' when making reference to what is officially Adolfo Lopez Mateos.

Wade bought land and along with his brother, Nolen, planted an orange orchard which had about 1,800 trees.

In 1956 he married Elena Gorham, also from Chamal. They had three children Diane, Richard and Lida Ruth. His and Elena's divorce was final on 19 Mar 1973.

In the early '70s he married Sabina Abundis, who was from Ocampo, Tamaulipas (just over the mountain to the west of the Chamal Valley). They produced two daughters, Shirley Anne and Anna Miriam.

During an altercation in Chamal in 1993, he was killed.
