The records of the Iowa WPA has Susannah Fischel Rominger as being born 1810 with death as Jan 6, 1862. This is wrong as she is in the 1870, 1880 and 1892 (Iowa State) censuses. She also has a marker at the Rominger Family Cemetery at Batavia, Jefferson County, Iowa where her husband is buried. Sometime late in life (some records show 1894) she moved from Iowa back to Indiana.

Susannah (went by Susan) Fishel was the fifth of ten known children of John Philip Fishel (1782-1850) and Rachel Elizabeth Miller (1783-1855), who married at 03 Aug 1802 at Stokes (probably the part that became Forsyth County later) County, North Carolina.

Susan married Samuel C. Rominger (1809-1882) on 01 Oct 1832 at Stokes County, North Carolina. Susan and Samuel were said to be the parents of ten children, the names of whom seven are known, namely:

  1. Charity L. Rominger McKee Graham (1833-1904)
  2. Carrol Rominger (c1836-???)
  3. Harriet Elizabeth Rominger Rohrer (1836-1863)
  4. Harmena (Hermina?) (Minnie) Mahala Rominger Jones (1847-1937)
  5. Samuel Matthew Rominger (1850-1851)
  6. Reuben Constantine Rominger (1852-1853)
  7. Annie F. Rominger Kiefer (1854-1949)

It is assumed that the other three children died young.

In 1850 Samuel (a miller), Susannah, Charity, Harriet, Sarah Bumford (age 7, who is this?) and Harmena and two mill-hands were living at Haw Creek Township, Bartholomew County, Indiana. All the children were born in Indiana.

In 1860 Sam C. Rominger (listed as R & H. Propr., as occupation, what does this mean?), Susannah, married daughter Charity McKee, Elizabeth Rohrer (age 12, was she a daughter of Harriet's husband by a previous marriage?), Harmenia Rominger (listed as age 6!), Ann Rominger (age 4), Nora McKee (age 3, daughter of Charity), Ida J. Rohrer (age 19, born NC, who was she?), Louisa Sanders (age 32, born NC, who was she?), Henige (hard to read) Priest (age 26, female, born NC, who was she?) and an Irish born peddler, were living at Indianapolis, Ward 2, Marion County, Indiana.

In 1870 Samuel, Susannah, daughter Annie, and grand-daughter Ida F. Rohrer (age 13) were living at Haw Creek, Bartholomew County, Indiana. The family is thought to have moved to Jefferson County, Iowa later in 1870. Samuel owned 250 acres of land in Des Moines Township, Jefferson County, Iowa. In 1880 the parents, a housekeeper and a farmhand were still living at Jefferson County, Iowa. Sometime after Samuel died in 1882 Susan returned to Bartholomew County, Indiana (some records say she moved in 1894). When Samuel died in 1882 he was survived by three daughters, Charity, Harmena and Annie.

Susan is buried at the Hope Moravian Graveyard, at Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana. Susan is said to have a marker also at the Rominger Family Cemetery like her husband. Susan was a first cousin, once removed of Samuel's.
