W. E. "Gene" Baldwin, 90, of Bryson City Road, died Monday, Aug. 17, in C. J. Harris Community Hospital.

A native of Macon County, he was a son of the late John Leander and Allie Ray Baldwin and the husband of Geneva Parrish Baldwin, who died in 1980.

He was a former director at First Union National Bank and operated Baldwin Grocery until his retirement.
He served as chairman of the Macon County Board of Commissioners and was a member of the board of the Farm Home Administration.

Surviving are three daughters, Lolita B. West, Ruby B. Cansler and Nora Jean B. Kinsland of Franklin; two sons, Gus G. and Ralph E. Baldwin of Franklin a sister, Bes Jacobs of Franklin; a brother, Cecil L. Baldwin of Franklin; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Franklin First Baptist Church, of which he was a member and deacon. Rev. Bob Page officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
